Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage
The memorandum of agreement signed for ICAP requires that sites "Provide Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage to all ICAP Members" under Supervisor responsibilities item 11. This is an AmeriCorps requirement. We encourage you to evaluate your campus's risk and provide coverage based upon its own needs. AmeriCorps does not require a minimum coverage, rather it requires coverage for member's potential injuries while they are serving. IACC does not require its sites to provide proof of insurance, therefore the burden of coverage lies on each site based upon that specific site's needs.

Worker’s Compensation. Some states require worker’s compensation for AmeriCorps members. Grantees must check with State Departments of Labor or state commissions to determine worker’s compensation requirements. If worker’s compensation is not required, grantees must obtain Occupational, Accidental, and Death and Dismemberment coverage for members to cover in-service injury or incidents.

C. 82. Are programs required to provide Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance?
Programs are responsible for ascertaining whether state law requires the provision of Workers’ Compensation for members. In states where Workers’ Compensation is not required, you must obtain Accidental Death and Dismemberment (ADD) insurance to cover any member who is injured or killed in a service-related accident. The Corporation does not endorse any particular provider of ADD insurance.
There is no minimum requirement for ADD insurance; however, programs should be sure that the ADD insurance is sufficient to cover in-service injuries or accidents. If a member is injured on the job, that member could hold the program responsible. There have been situations where the program didn’t have the required ADD insurance and faced medical bills for an injured member. While ADD insurance is an allowable cost, medical and legal bills resulting from not having ADD insurance aren’t.
