Disaster Preparedness/Response Policy
AmeriCorps Programs play an integral role in Disaster Response across the nation. The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service (ICVS) has pledged to assist with statewide preparedness and recovery from disasters. AmeriCorps programs can be expected to participate, on some level, with disaster preparedness and response activities. Members need to complete Disaster Preparedness training prior to completing their term of service. Members are allowed to serve in times of disasters and may seek further guidance from IACC on how to get involved. Members may also count time spent responding to disasters as part of service when approved by IACC. Iowa Campus Compact AmeriCorps Program follows the ICVS policies on disaster relief and all project sites are expected to do the same.
If a member responds to a local disaster, the Campus Supervisor, the ICAP Director and ICVS should all be notified in a timely manner.
If a member responds to a national disaster, the member must seek approval from the Campus Supervisor and the ICAP Program Director, who will be in contact with ICVS.
